are a digital operation.
PLEASE AVOID PROVIDING VELOX PRINTS
OF YOUR ADS.
If you are forwarding your ad
to us, please make every attempt to provide ads on disk.
Velox prints are often "screened" and reproduce
poorly.
We want your ad to look professional and attractive
to consumers!
We
can work with Macintosh diskettes, CD's, and 100 mg
Zip disks. Make sure that all fonts, art, mandatory
plug-ins etc. are included on the disk. WE CANNOT
WORK WITH TRUE TYPE FONTS, BITMAP FONTS OR PC VERSIONS
OF POSTSCRIPT FONTS. If you have such a font, please
convert it to art in a drawing program (covert fonts
to Òpaths'prior to saving as an EPS).
It
is advisable to send both an editable version of the
ad and an .eps file. We will try to use the .eps, but
if we run into trouble, it is helpful to have an editable
format as well. If you are sending only an .eps or a
PC document, you must convert your fonts to art (or
paths) in a program like Adobe Illustrator or Freehand.
Please,
label your disk with your business name and the name
& phone number of the person who created the ad. Include
instructions with program used, fonts, etc. Include
a hard copy of the ad so we know what it should look
like. If you are supplying a black & white hard copy
for a color ad, please call out colors. COLOR ADS
MUST BE CMYK ONLY. Do not use spot colors, RGB etc.
Black should be set to overprint. Customer is responsible
for proper trapping.
SOFTWARE
PROGRAMS AVAILABLE-
Multi-Ad Creator,
Photoshop, QuarkXpress, Adobe Illustrator, and Freehand.
All versions are Macintosh, but PC files can usually
be opened on a Mac with the corresponding program. Type
is another story. If youÕre on a PC, please use the
fonts below, or convert your specialized type to art
in a drawing program like Illustrator or Freehand. PDFs:
PDF (which stands for Portable Document Format) is a
great no-hassle way to transfer black & white documents
across platforms. Set up properly, a PDF will embed
necessary fonts, preventing inadvertent substitution.
To create a usable PDF, you need Adobe AcrobatÕs Exchange
program.
SPECS
& GUIDELINES-
Colors darken significantly on
newsprint. Adjust accordingly. For black & white photos,
we recommend a 65% shadow and a 3% highlight. Color
photos must be CMYK. For coupons, you must use UnitedÕs
coupon border and it must be black. We do not accept
in-column ads on disk. Set up your document size the
same as the ad size (see UDAC sizes shown above). That
way, when you export as an .eps you wonÕt export a bunch
of white space with your ad. ¥ Keep in mind that we
are unable to modify any file saved as an .eps. Please
send ads ready-to-go, and made to the proper dimensions.
We assume what you send us is what you want to appear
in print.
